SpaceShipOne, X Prize and Sputnik

SpaceShip One Wins the X Prize, October 4, 2004. As you know - October 4th was already a big day in Space History - in 1957 the Soviets launched Sputnik - the world’s first foray into space travel. Our hats off to Burt Ruton and the crew at Scaled Composites for pulling off this remarkable feat - and capturing the X Prize of $10 million dollars.
