Happy New Year from LikeTelevision!

December 31, 2003

The staff at LikeTelevision would like to wish our users a very happy and prosperous New Year. Heck.. we wish that for the whole world and everyone in it. We created a few search lists for videos related to the holiday, affectionately known as amateur night. First – try this one – New Year, and since many use the holiday to experiment with the boy’s limits on alcohol consumption (please be safe… we love you man!)… we thought you might try a search for drinking. In addition to prosperity – we would like to wish everyone’s New Year to be filled with Hope, Joy and Peace …. PLUS a healthy dose of Love.

More Wacky Max and Dave

December 30, 2003

Another fun addition to the already massive cartoon library at LikeTelevision…. and this animation comes from two of the pioneers – Max and Dave Fleischer… who are responsible for Betty Boop, Popeye the Sailor and countless other characters of cartoon history. Oddly enough, this cartoons looks not ahead in time… but backwards. Granite Hotel takes a whimsical look at what a prehistoric hotel might have looked like… adding the current days troubles with a twist from the past. And yes… it is a pretty decent concept and this cartoon delivers. Of course Max and Dave Fleischer have deep roots and history in the world of cartoons, and in fact were two of the leading cavemen back in the day. Enjoy yourselves with one as the 2003 year comes to a close.

MERRY CHRISTMAS – from LTi

December 25, 2003

Howdy… and Merry Christmas. and Happy Holidays! Just thought it was worth the effort to repost our Season’s Greetings.

Merry Christmas and a Happy Holiday Season from all the folks at LikeTelevision. There’s a lot of fun Christmas related content here, and one way to find it is to search for Christmas. But allow us to point you to some of our favorites. Try this one- a classic Dragnet episode, Big Little Jesus. Joe Friday, played by Jack Webb is called on the case by Father Rojas to find the missing Jesus, who has disappeared from the Nativity scene. (No, the ACLU didn’t take it). As you might imagine, Joe isn’t pulling any punches on this case, and you’ll love the shakedown of an innocent guy who looks a little shabby, and was at the mass just before the statue turned up missing. We also highly recommend a few classic Beverly Hillbilly episodes – Christmas at the Clampetts, Home For Christmas, and Clampetts Get Culture. All of them are great.

If you are looking for some cool live music performances of Christmas classics – check out Cast in Bronze, which features a huge carillon, live on stage. (a carillon is massive bell instrument played by hitting pedals and levers… really cool). Or how about a live Hammer Dulcimer performance from LikeTelevision’s studio.

And yes… there’s lots more too. Like Santa Claus Conquers the Martians, Rudolf the Red Nosed Reindeer, and even a Howdy Doody Christmas. Need more, just search for Christmas

More Felix the Cat -in Color!

December 22, 2003

Just a few days before Christmas – and we have lots to be thankful… like taking it a little easy this week. :~) But that doesn’t mean we’re going just do nothing! So… here’s the latest offering from LikeTelevision – a cool new Felix The Cat cartoon – Bold King Cole. Personally… my favorite Felix the Cat cartoons are the really old B&W classics…. that feature the cool jazz soundtracks, but this toon is pretty cool. I always loved animations with weird machines, that could only work in a cartoon. The one offers a machine to let the air out of wind bags… boy would that be cool if they had on in real life! Check it out and enjoy the show… as our favorite feline offers his help to Old King Cole, who likes to do his share of bragging.

Was Yogi the Bear the First?

December 18, 2003

Our latest addition to LikeTelevision media library is a great cartoon called Barney’s Hungry Cousin and casts some light about where Hanna Barbera got the idea for Yogi The Bear. Back in 1953 – years before before Yogi would start hassling Ranger John Smith, there was Barney Bear in Barney’s Hungry Cousin, who oddly enough hangs out at Jellostone National Park (vs. Yogi’s digs at Jellystone). There are a ton of similaries… but see for yourself and remember that most good ideas are derivative. Rumor has it that the Hanna Barbera folks were working at the studio where Barney Bear was created… so you make the call.

Wright Brothers Media Archive Footage

December 17, 2003

On December 17, 1903 – 100 years ago today, two bicycle makers from Ohio came to Kill Devil Hills, NC to test their funky new machine… a gas powered airplane. While most people think these guys were a bunch of bumpkins – in fact they were incredibly hard working geniuses and nobody’s fool. Many of their testing techniques for aerodynamics and research of flight remain common practice today. Like what you ask? The Wrights were the first to use wind tunnel technology to test their aircraft, the pitch of their propellors… and I could go on and on and on. These guys knew more about what they did than anybody in their day – and that’s why they were the first to fly. These were not daredevils who got lucky. These were brilliant researchers and applied their science from an endless grind of trial and error. So give old Wilbur and Orville Wright some respect. They worked hard and kicked butt. Always nice to see a little hard working guy do well for himself.

Check out these media clips that offer some terrific archive footage of the Wright Brothers and The history of flight. Cool stuff.

Weird and Wacky Winky

December 15, 2003

Wow – this is one major weird cartoon… reminds me of Hunter S. Thompson, and his line about the Weird turning Pro. Winky The Watchman has got it all… it will make you laugh, give you the creeps, and wonder what the heck the folks who made this were thinking. Also… for more dental humor… check out this blog entry – Dental Comedy Hour.

Dentists are Funny Guys!

December 9, 2003

LikeTelevision proudly presents – The Dental Comedy Hour. Actually it will take over an hour to check out all these dental realted clips… but oh my, what a line-up. We are putting this together to get you stoked about a new cartoon coming later this week called Winky The Watchman, that is one of the most bizarre catoons we’ve ever seen. It’s make you laugh, and give you the creeps… but first, let us brush up on some dental humor so we are properly in the mood.

A quick search for Dentist brings up some great content – W.C. Fields in The Dentist, Jack Nicholson’s debut in Little Shop of Horrors as a masocist who likes getting his molars impacted, Jerry, Dick Van Dyke’s neighbor is featured in this classic, and even a cool classic commercial for Colgate toothpaste. But you really need to check out Dr. Barre… read on!

Way back when… we thought it would be cool if sports teams gave out CD-ROMs to fans, sponsored and paid for by advertisers. What a great idea, huh? Well, some friends knew some folks at the Carolina Hurricanes (an NHL team from Raleigh, which is near Mount Pilot, a few hours from Mayberry), so we decided to make some bogus content for a fake team, called the Vermont Vikings to help relate the concept to guys in management. (we forget they are often humorless, but I digress). Anyway, as part of that project – we thought it would be funny to do a comedy sketch on Dr. Barre, the team dentist. If you like whacked subtle humor – you’ll love it. Make sure you also check out Antoine Dufleur -NHL Poet Laureate, The Zamboni Guy, and The Penalty Box. Ok.. if you checked it out, and in case you are brain dead… no – we didn’t get any business out of this Vermont Vikings idea. The reception to this concept CD was deader than Montpellier on a rainy day.

Which brings us back to Winky The Watchman – a cartoon that seems to have been funded by the American Dental Association (or is it American Dental Denizens… like ADD or something). The baddies (black ghostly creatures, who speak in early Ebonics no less)… attack the white walls (i.e. the teeth). It’s a combo cartoon with real world footage and is real gem we dug up deep in the root canal celler. Clearly – we have no no sense whatsoever, or maybe it’s just a case of compacted wisdom teeth. Check it out – coming later this week. Just search for dentist.

Granny Rides on a Plane!

December 5, 2003

Today we are featuring one of the funniest episodes of the Beverly Hillibillies you might have missed. Home For Christmas provides some major laughs as the Hillbillies head home for the holidays. The funniest scene features the Clampetts taking their first ride on an airplane…. which at first they think is just a fancy bus. When the old Boeing 707 starts accelerating down the runway, they start to get a little nervous and want to talk with the bus driver, cause if he goes any faster, this bus is going to go flying off in the air. This episode also features the great Paul Winchell as cranky old Grampa Winch, who is a little like the Grinch that stole Christmas. Great stuff. And very very funny.
