Graham Greene’s The Third Man

Based on Graham Greene’s story - The Third Man is really creepy dark film, that offers some of most amazing zither music ever played. Anton Karas is the Jimi Hendrix of zither noodleing. A remarkable player! Orson Welles stars as Harry Lime - a slimeball in post wwII, who sells blackmarket medicines to desparate hospitals and doctors and gets murdered… or does he? Joseph Cotten plays Holly Martins plays an down and out American writer, Trevor Howard is perfect as the British Major, and for the big female star - we are introduced to Valli, who plays Anna Schmidt. She is really beautiful - and has that Eastern European soft melancholy pout down pat. The movie is well written, great pacing, A+ for cinematography (especially cool - the stairway sequence, which certainly inspired Hitchcock in his inspiring stairway sequence in Vertigo. The Third Man is one of my favorite movies on the site.
